Red Alert: U.K Government is Planning Mass Graves in Case of H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic

Posted by Uzair on December 22, 2009

An official UK government report –quoted extensively in Britain’s tabloid media– is warning the British public that there will be countless deaths in the case of a swine flu pandemic. According to the WHO, a Worlwide public health emergency situation will take place in the Fall.

A high death toll is predicted without corroborating evidence.

The official report confirms government plans to set up mass graves for the victims of the swine flu pandemic:

“Plans for mass graves have been drawn up to cope with a second wave of swine flu this Autumn. The chilling proposals are spelled out in a Home Office document discussed at a meeting of Whitehall officials and council leaders last month.

It warns emergency plans may be needed in areas where there are not enough graves to cope.

The 59-page document talks about using “a grave that is for a number of unrelated persons, excavated mechanically in advance and designed for efficient preparation and use”. (The Sun, Augsut 19, 2009)

US Government Supports Terror In Balochistan

Posted by Uzair on August 24, 2009

The US Department of State refuses to designate the so-called Balochistan Liberation Army [BLA] as a terrorist organization.  One of BLA’s terrorists, Harbyar Mari, enjoys a safe haven in London.  Another terrorist and Indian agent Brahamdagh Bugti lives in a safe haven in US-controlled Kabul.  BLA in Pakistan and Jundullah in Iran have emerged out of nowhere after the US occupation of Afghanistan.  What exactly Pakistani politicians and military officials are waiting for before they confront our so-called allies?  A full-blown foreign-backed secession?

Sunday, 23 August 2009.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—A newly formed blogger network of Pakistani Bloggers namely Union of Patriotic Bloggers for Sovereign Pakistan (UPBSP) has started a Containment of USA” Campaign which aims at containing the US role inside Pakistan and confining it to its diplomatic role guaranteed under the international law.  The other aim of the campaign is to compel Pakistani politicians and rulers to act in the best interest of a proud and sovereign Pakistan as dreamed by the Founding Fathers, the Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal.  Hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis have given great sacrifices during the Pakistan independence movement so that today’s generation lives in a sovereign and independent state.

It is imperative to mention some of the criminal activities of world Terrorist No-1 and rogue state, United State of America.

US Government Supports Terror In Balochistan

US Citizenship and Immigration Service website shows Balochistan as a standalone entry in Country of Citizenship box.  Considering the separatist movement in southwest Pakistan backed from Afghan territories under American control, the issue should raise concern in Islamabad, or at least in Rawalpindi since the Pakistani capital has fallen to a pro-US government.

Some US government departments are quietly preparing the ground for the warlike act of recognizing Pakistan’s Balochistan province as an independent state by assigning a separate checklist to Balochistan against the “Country of citizenship” column of Immigration Form for non-US nationals.  This is one step forward in several steps taken by the United States, or by some powerful elements within the US government, to turn into reality the designs for the so-called Free Baluchistan explained in Blood Borders, the article written by a US military officer a couple of years ago, as also pointed out by Awab Alvi.

Ahmed Quraishi’s website provides much stuff about the Blackwater’s activities in Peshawar.  The construction of US Castle in Islamabad and suspicious activities of US marines near the brigade headquarters of Pakistan’s Special Operation Task Force (SOTF) in Turbilla are well exposed by Saleem Shehzad in Asia times online.

We have no objection if US embassy in Islamabad and its consulates in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar work in the framework of International Law.  However, unlawful activities in the name of the so-called war on terror and expanding an intrusive presence are unacceptable and will be resisted through peaceful struggle that may also culminate in the end of the present regime that rules Pakistan.

We also urge the present government to act as a government of Pakistan and not as an agent of the United States.

We assure that the patriotic and nationalistic younger generation of Pakistanis, women and men, will stand by our government and army if they resisted the US expansionist designs.

The schedule for rallies and demonstrations will be announced shortly.

Any Pakistani Blogger can join the network by simply emailing us his/her consent to

Please send your resentments under subject “Containment of USA In Pakistan” at the following address:

The Spiritual War

pic of the day - 230209

In the “book of Daniel” comes a story about a prophet of God named Daniel who, while explaining the meaning of a dream seen by the king of Babylon, ‘Nebuchadnezzar’ prophesiezed the upcoming world events. This was the time of Jewish exile into Babylon. It was here in Babylon the Jews started learning and practicing black magic known as “Kabbalah”. It was a time for the creation of Talmud and Mishnah, both being books of law that deviates Jews from the original commandments given to Moses and which govern the present day Israel. Prophet Daniel in the year 333 BC prophesized about the upcoming empires of the world. In the end of it he prophesized that, 2300 years from then on, an “evil empire” will emerge on the face of this earth and from that point we will enter into the end of times. Do your math and you’ll find out that the year is 1967. The year in which after the end of 6 days war with Palestine, Syria, Jordan and Egypt, Israel was able to capture the Sinai desert, Golan heights, West bank and Jerusalem. It was after this war that Israel emerged on the face of the earth as a superpower : An empire founded on murder and injustice: or in the words of Prophet Danile (PBUH), an ‘evil’ empire. He also prophesized that 45 years after the creation of the evil empire, the time for the coming of Antichrist or Dajjal will be very near. Do your math again and find out which year he is referring to.

This is a war initiated by Satan himself and it is a battle for our soul. Dajjal being the final of Satan’s weapon for inflicting unbearable pain on the sons and daughters of Adam, is about to be unleashed into this world. The Quran teaches that for Nimrod came Abraham, for Pharoah came Moses and for Dajjal will come Jesus (PBUH). So, the question that we need to ask is; are we ready for this war on the ground and more importantly within ourselves? The misinterpretation and manipulation of holy scriptures is nothing but a warfare technique chosen by satan and his followers. Those who understand this know that this is in every sense a ’spiritual’ war.

The Bizarre discoveries of 21st Century science – Evolution & the Universe – The Secret Engine of all Life

I never was interested in chemistry, but these days, I look on chemistry and atoms as the truly wonder science. Somewhere down there, in absolute minute detail things happen that are too bizarre for words – beyond magic. I suspect that at an atomic level and at a cosmological level the more sophisticated we become the more complexity we will find. The Universe, I believe, will turn out to be more complex than humanity can imagine or conceive of. Its ultimate complexity will be so awe-inspiring that we will just sit here in utter amazement wondering how the hell this all came into being and where it will go because we will sit here still, with unresolved questions still being no nearer to understanding the mystery of the universe and everything in it. I am convinced that 1,000 years from now, the big answers will have eluded us as totally as they elude us now. All we will have found in the interim is never-ending complexity. The complexity will be logarithmic. When we discover something new we’ll discover more complexity in the thing we discovered. When we solve that we will move to a new level of complexity and so forth. We will be no nearer to answering the big questions 1,000 years from now. All that will happen is we will simply be AWED and STUNNED by this bizarre universe we live in.

While Tamiflu is one of the most effective drugs in treating swine flu infection, a new report warns that the drug may increase the risk of stroke.

Previously, researchers had urged parents to avoid using the drug in their offspring as its risks outweighed the benefits. Nausea and nightmares were among the most frequent side effects reported in children.

American historian Webster Tarpley argues that this is nothing new, serious inconsistencies have been associated with terror attacks for hundreds of years throughout the Western world.

Report: AF-PAK War And The Battle For Oil

Obama takes a huge leap beyond Bush’s Afghanistan policy in naming the issue “Af-Pak” — that is, widening the carnage in Afghanistan into Pakistan by moving US troops and launching deadly drones across the Pashtun-populated border.

Although Zionist Jews and imperialist war hawks applaud Obama for his new “Af-Pak” approach to his unwinnable war, others contend that he should have renamed the imperialist war, “Pak-Af,” to emphasize that from the perspective of US interests, the heart of the problem lies in Pakistan. Why?

Afghanistan – Obama’s ‘Zionist’ War-

“THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN IS ROOTED IN ISRAEL,”  asserts former US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, Karen Kwiatkowski, whose assignments included duties at the Pentagon and the National Security Agency. Kwiatkowski holds an MA in Government from Harvard and a PhD in World Politics.

In an interview on July 24, 2009, Kwiatkowski said that the real reason America continues its presence in Afghanistan is to keep the pressure up on Israel’s ‘enemy’ – Iran

Why I’m An Ungrateful Pakistani, Mr. Holbrooke

Washington used Pakistan to help occupy Afghanistan.  Once done, America turned its back to Pakistan and gradually turned Afghanistan into a hub for anti-Pakistan forces, from Northern Alliance warlords, Indian intelligence operatives to Pakistan-averse US military and intelligence officers.

There is little reason to believe that President Obama has weaned America off the policy of regional destabilization and adventurism that the Bush-Cheney combine pursued in Afghanistan.

Let me show you a quick list of the mess that we believe has its origins in US-occupied Afghanistan

Suicide soars among US soldiers: 141 suicides since January!

As the US government throws its weight about the globe, hundreds of thousands of men, women and children fall before Uncle Sam’s swinging scythe.  But, those at the cutting edge of the scythe are falling too, often by their own hands, in the inescapable confines of their homes or quarters in the barracks back on the US soil.

In 2008, 143 soldiers committed suicide, the highest number in the three decades that the army has kept records, reports Washington Post.

List: Top 50 US War Criminals

Compiled below, in hopes that it may be of some assistance to Eric Holder, John Conyers, Patrick Leahy, active citizens, foreign courts, the International Criminal Court, law firms preparing civil suits, and local or state prosecutors with decency and nerve is a list of 50 top living U.S. war criminals. These are men and women who helped to launch wars of aggression or who have been complicit in lesser war crimes. These are not the lowest-ranking employees or troops who managed to stray from official criminal policies. These are the makers of those policies.

CIA hires Blackwater to take serious actions on Pakistani soil

According to a New York Times report, the Blackwater private security firm (now known as Xe) has taken up a role in America’s most important and contentious counterterrorism program: the use of unmanned drones to kill al-Qaeda leaders.

The New York Times first reported Blackwater’s involvement late Wednesday on its Web site.

The report said Blackwater executives helped with planning, training and surveillance for a secret program to kill top-level members of Al-Qaida.

US workplace suicides jump 28 percent

A US report has found a record 28% rise in workplace suicide rates last year as the global economic meltdown continues to take its toll in the country.According to a report by the US Labor Department, 251 people committed suicide at the workplace in 2008, amid widespread layoffs and overall belt-tightening.

That’s the highest figure ever recorded in the United States for suicide attempts at the workplace.

Red Alert: U.K Government is Planning Mass Graves in Case of H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic – Pak Alert Press

Posted by Uzair on August 24, 2009 Report

The mass graves, according to the report, “are being planned to deal with the rising death toll from swine flu if the pandemic escalates”:

“The grim revelation will see the mass burial sites dug in advance to cope with any potential crisis.

The Government is planning to create a series of communal graves to cope with the second outbreak expected in the autumn and through the winter.

A Home Office document published earlier this year sets out plans for how local councils should deal with a high death toll – estimates of the number of deaths range from 55,000 to as high as 750,000 from the H1N1 killer virus – including setting up temporary mortuaries.

So far, 44 people in England have been confirmed as dying after contracting swine flu and another five have died in Scotland. The document says that while most cemeteries have sufficient burial capacity for a number of years, this could be put to the test at the peak of a pandemic. (Daily Express, August 19, 2009)

The chilling proposals contained in the government report serve to intimidate the British public and create an atmosphere of panic. A public health crisis is being planned in a diabolical fashion. .

The report suggests unequivocally that there will be countless deaths resulting from the level 6 WHO pandemic, which require the development of mass graves:

Within weeks of a full-blown pandemic emerging, the number of burials could more than double. Inner city areas “may experience a shortage of grave space”, the report stated.

Freight containers and “inflatable” storage units may be needed to provide extra mortuary space. But it stated that “refrigerated vehicles and trailers should not be used”.

Other contingency plans being suggested were the need for cemeteries and crematoriums to work seven days a week and to hire extra staff to cope with demand.

There may also be a need for more “basic and shorter services at the chapel” or for “memorial services” to be held at a person’s home instead.

Retired doctors could be called back to work to issue death certificates so GPs can focus on patients, while NHS Blood and Transplant has appealed to the public to give blood to ensure banks were well stocked.

A Home Office spokeswoman said: “This is prudent, precautionary planning that has been taking place over a number of years, with the health service, other essential services and local authorities. It is important to stress that these are possible scenarios, not certainties, so that our stakeholders can plan for the worst and be prepared to deal with the outbreak effectively.” (Ibid)

These assertions are totally fabricated. There is absolutely no scientific evidence to support these claims.

Realities are turned upside down. The British government is deliberately misleading the British public.

With some exceptions, the British media bears a heavy burden of responsibility in failing to analyse these “authoritative” statements emanating from Her Majesty’s Government.

The WHO has not provided the evidence, nor has the British  government.

There is ample evidence, documented in numerous reports, that the WHO’s level 6 pandemic alert is based on fabricated evidence and a manipulation of the figures on mortality and morbidity resulting from the N1H1 swine flu.

The data initially used to justify the WHO’s Worldwide level 5 alert in April 2009 was extremely scanty.

The WHO asserted without evidence that a “global outbreak of the disease is imminent”. It distorted Mexico’s mortality data pertaining to the swine flu pandemic. According to the WHO Director General Dr. Margaret Chan in her official April 29 statement: “So far, 176 people have been killed in Mexico”. From what? Where does she get these numbers? 159 died from influenza out of which only seven deaths, corroborated by lab analysis, resulted from the H1N1 swine flu strain, according to the Mexican Ministry of Health.

The swine flu has the same symptoms as seasonal influenza: fever, cough and sore throat. What is happening is that the widespread incidence of the common flu is being used to generate the data pertaining to the H1N1 swine flu.

And all of sudden, the British authorities are predicting widespread mortality resulting from an influenza related ailment. What is the evidence. Big Pharma is behind the official reports and the media disinformation campaign.

Similarly, in the US the intervention of the military (as well as martial law provisions) are being envisaged in the case of a public health emergency.

Is this emergency being planned ahead of time. Are these various national emergencies (Britain, France UK) being coordinated through inter-governmental consultations, which serves to trigger a Worldwide public health emergency, based on fabricated evidence?

Deadly Vaccines

On the other hand, amply documented and denied by Western governments, the proposed vaccines could result in more deaths than those caused by the H1N1 influenza, as confirmed by Britain’s Health Protection Agency:

A warning that the new swine flu jab is linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter.

The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, has been leaked to The Mail on Sunday, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins.

It tells the neurologists that they must be alert for an increase in a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine.

GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal.

The letter, sent to about 600 neurologists on July 29, is the first sign that there is concern at the highest levels that the vaccine itself could cause serious complications.

It refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when:

* More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu.

* 500 cases of GBS were detected.

* The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times.

* The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear.

* The US Government was forced to pay out millions of dollars to those affected. (Mail on Sunday, August 16, 2009)

The British government has announced that more than 13 million people will be innoculated. The proposed vaccines for the H1N1 swine flu have not, as yet, been tested.

Swine Flu: UK to Claim 100,000 H1N1 Cases a Day by Fall 09

Sarah Boseley and Severin Carrell
The Guardian
July 3, 2009

More than 100,000 people could be diagnosed with swine flu every day by the end of August, the government said, announcing that the disease can no longer be contained in the UK.

A Commons statement by the health secretary, Andy Burnham, marks a watershed in the spread of the flu. No more schools will be closed, unless forced to by the lack of staff or if the pupils are especially vulnerable. Families and people in contact with those with flu will not be given preventative antiviral drugs.

The new policy of treatment for those with diagnosed illness, rather than containment, has already begun in the hotspots – chiefly London, Birmingham and Scotland.

Dr Blaylock’s List of suggestions on How to Reduce the Toxic Effects of the A/H1N1 Vaccine, is as follows:

1.  Number one on the list says Dr Blaylock, is to bring a cold pack with you and place it on the site of the injection as soon as you can, as this will block the immune reaction.   Once you get home, continue using a cold pack throughout the day.  If you continue to have immune reactions the following day, have cold showers and continue with the cold press.

2.  Take fish oil.   Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), one of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil supplements, is a potent immune suppressant.  If you take high dose EPA you will be more susceptible to infections, because it is a powerful immune suppressant.  However, in the case of  an immune adjuvant reaction, you want to reduce it.  Studies show that if  you take EPA oil one hour before injecting a very powerful adjuvant called lipopolysaccharide (LPS), it would completely block the ability of the LPS to cause brain inflammation.  Take a moderate dose everyday and more if needed to tame a cytokine storm.

Swine Flu Drug Tamiflu Increases Stroke Risk, Poses Serious Threat to Your Health

Nausea and nightmares were among the most frequent side effects reported in children.

According to the report recently released by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Tamiflu may interact with the blood-thinning medication warfarin, placing the individual at an increased risk of uncontrolled bleeding (INR rate).

A significant increase in the INR rate could consequently lead to the development of a hemorrhagic stroke.

Latest Headlines 17/08/09 – The Illuminati Agenda For The Coming New Order – Pak Alert Press

1219 days left for Age of Transition to begin!
Brace yourself for the worst to come!

The Illuminati Agenda For The Coming New Order

Increasingly, it would seem that American society is spiraling into chaos. Financial malfeasance in Government and Big Business has placed millions of Americans into homeless shelters and unemployment lines. In many locales, the housing bubble has burst as values plummet. To many, the news of the “pending” Pandemic of Influenza is just another hinge on the doorway leading to helplessness and hopelessness.

To most Americans, the financial malaise gripping this country is completely unrelated to the world’s “Pandemic Flu” but those who feel this way are simply naïve and un-informed. The truth is, the world’s “Power Elite” have engineered both conditions as part of their computer-driven model for their ultimate centralization of power. Make no mistake, nothing concerning the economic meltdown and the lab-created flu pandemic is “natural” it is completely and totally happening by DESIGN.

Trend Alert: The ‘Second American Revolution’ Has Begun

The natives are restless. The third shot of the “Second American Revolution” has been fired. History is being made. But just as with the first two shots, the third shot is not being heard. America is seething. Not since the Civil War has anything like this happened. But the protests are either being intentionally downplayed or ignorantly misinterpreted.

Before the momentum of the “Second American Revolution” becomes unstoppable, it could be derailed through some false flag event designed to deceive the public, or a genuine event or crisis capable of rallying the entire nation behind the President. In a worst-case scenario, according to Trends Research Institute Director, Gerald Celente, “Given the pattern of governments to parlay egregious failures into mega-failures, the classic trend they follow, when all else fails, is to take their nation to war.”

A false flag attempt, a genuine crisis, or a declaration of war, may slow the momentum of the “Second American Revolution,” but nothing will stop it.

How A Politicized Supreme Court Deceived Pakistanis

In 2007 Condi Rice, Richard Boucher and British diplomat Mark Lyall Grant created a law called NRO to whitewash the illegal wealth of Benazir Bhutto, Asif Zardari and many other Pakistanis to help them come to power.  Two years later, in 2009, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has indirectly declared the NRO as valid.  The excuse for this is to avoid ‘rocking the system’.  Musharraf is gone but his NRO will survive.  In a theatrical move, he was condemned but his illegal creation – and that of Condi, Boucher and Grant – was preserved.  This could prove to be the biggest deception carried out in Pakistan in the name of democracy.

This column was supposed to appear on 5 August.  It was blocked by The News International where Mr. Quraishi’s columns are published regularly.  No reason was given for this censorship.  One more example of how democracy does not work in Pakistan despite the best efforts of Condi, Boucher and Grant.

If Musharraf Committed Treason, The Chief Justice ‘Abetted’ Him, Will He Order To Hang Himself Too?

If former President Pervez Musharraf is charged with treason, he will not be alone.  So should be the politicians who supported him and the Supreme Court judges who endorsed his coup in the year 2000.  Almost all of the top judges in Pakistan today fall into this category.  This is why the Supreme Court did not even mention the 1999 coup and restricted itself to condemning Musharraf for his 2007 emergency rule.  The incumbent Chief Justice of Pakistan was among the judges who endorsed Mr. Musharraf’s coup.  The Article 6 of the Constitution charges with treason not only violators like Musharraf but also the ‘abettors’ like the honorable judges who endorsed the violator.  What a predicament.

Pakistan’s Natural Riches: A Report

There are many among the youth of our country who underestimate the beauty of Pakistan; they fail to see the treasures hidden under the cultural landscape and look at it condescendingly, comparing it to other countries with superficial “luxuries” to offer. Among the many things that are unwary of, they do not know that this wondrous land which is the sixth most populous country in the world, boasts the second largest Muslim (and Shi’ite Muslim) population, only after Indonesia. It has been listed as one of the next eleven economies identified by Goldman Sachs investment bank and is believed to have a high potential of becoming the world’s largest economies in the 21st century, Insha’ALLAH.

This land of the pure has natural resources in such abundance that it can sustain itself for many years ahead. Scientific investigation and exploration, into the resources, have only really been under way for a few years; the equipments used are obsolete and outdated, while the analysis is incomplete. Regardless of all the constraints, it is believed that all of while has been identified so far is a mere tip of the iceberg.

The Revolution within Ourselves

Who is to be blamed for our downfall? The blood sucking politicians, the sheepish generals, the dead like door knob religious leaders, the power hungry bureaucracy, and the corrupt businessmen. But this is only the tail of the coin. We should look at the flip side of the coin and we will see our own faces there. Yes my friends, we all are also responsible for the downfall of our nation. Do we remember what Jinnah said to us, the citizen of this country? Jinnah stressed on hard work, dedication, unity in ranks, faith in Pakistan and top notch discipline. Did we follow that? No we didn’t.

Alert: Autonomous Balochistan Before The End Of 2009

We have been told to start preparing for our own government in Balochistan. Pakistan has agreed to declare our own government in Balochistan which will act as an autonous region. I should be happy about it, but the real reason is not development and prosperity of Balochistan. It is destruction of Pakistan and Iran.

Our imprisoned leaders are being freed and are returning home. Here we have just got huge amounts of weapons and newly trained foreign fighters. We are told that Zardari had agreed with Indian Prime Minister during his Egypt visit that Balochistan will be autonomous before the end of the year. And Rehman Malik has met with Indian and US military persons in Afghanistan to finalize the details. That is all I know.

ALERT: Senior Pakistani Politician In Govt. Caught On Tape Endorsing The Breakup Of Balochistan!

This hard evidence adds to the existing circumstantial evidence that some foreign governments have successfully cultivated high-level moles in Islamabad.

These are three startling developments that point not just to criminal negligence on the part of the elected federal Pakistani government but to collusion at some high level within the Pakistani government.  We know that a few who claim to represent Pakistani Balochis are completely sold out to the agenda of two or three countries in the region.  What is new is connivance in Islamabad.  If something is going to happen to Pakistan’s Balochistan, it will not be possible without inside help.

Balochis Raise Star And The Crescent Despite Terrorist Warnings

The BLA terrorists supported by foreign powers in Afghanistan have forced patriotic Pakistani Balochis to remove Pakistan’s flag in some areas of southwestern Pakistan.  The terrorists of Akbar Bugti and his Kabul-based grandson Brahamdagh threaten the people of elimination if they wave the Pakistani flag on the nation’s 62nd Independence Day.  But patriotic Pakistanis in Balochistan are waving the Green and the Crescent despite BLA threats to their lives.  This is slap from the people of Balochistan on the face of these terrorists

This episodes theme is “Conspiracy Theorists” and the guests are Nadeem F Paracha and Zaid Hamid.

Nadeem Farooq Paracha, a staunch opposer of the BrassTacks mission and a representative of his “OWN THINKING CLASS“ invites Mr. Zaid Hamid to his show +92 id to talk about conspiracy theories and the role of conspiracy theorists. The program exposes the fundamental clash between the mind set of the two classes and brings out their ideological and perceptive differences.

Sindhi Soldiers Of Pakistan Army Repel Terrorists From Afghanistan

The tide is turning and the morale is high.  ‘Our boys from Sukkur’ create a good feeling through military ranks today.

Ambush attacks usually work in favor of the attackers because of the element surprise and the relative unpreparedness of the ambushed target. But not today.  The soldiers of the 1st Sindh Regiment Battalion who were part of a convoy passing through Asad Khel, south of the town of Miranshah in North Waziristan, numbering about 80 soldiers, repelled today a huge attack by terrorists from Afghanistan and their local recruits.

ISI role and foreign agencies involvement in Pakistan terrorism

Everyone in Washington and New Delhi mentions ISI when talking about terrorism. Really? What about the Israeli Mossad, the Indian RAW, and the American CIA? Who had links with Al-Qaeda all along? Certainly not the ISI. The fact is that ISI never had links with Al-Qaeda. Others did. And yes, ISI has links with some people inside the Afghan Taliban. But without this link, U.S. soldiers and others in Afghanistan would have been in a worse situation than they are in now.

A Party Leader Of Former Premier Nawaz Sharif Involved In Killing Pakistani Christians For A Piece of Land

Another proof of a sick and a failed political system.  A senior leader of PMLN used fake rumors of Quran desecration to expel minority Pakistanis from valuable land by burning them alive. The tragedy could have been averted had the administration of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif acted on time.  It moved two days late.  The failure to do so not only resulted in killing innocent minority Pakistanis and tarnishing the nation’s image, it might also strengthen the case of those who would like to see America’s failed war in Afghanistan move to Punjab after the tribal belt and Swat.

Biography: Nawaz Sharif

In April 2009 the Sharif brothers went to the U.S. Embassy alone and didn’t take along any party member. So this wasn’t a party visit. The aim of the visit was to convince the Americans to back the brothers for the top political posts in Pakistan.

But typical Nawaz Sharif had his own ideas, he was bent upon taking revenge from Musharraf for the humiliation he suffered by running in exile to Saudi, Nawaz didn’t care about the country as his mega rich himself and won’t hesitate to run in exile again if needed to. Ishaq Dar came briefly tooled with Nawaz’s personal vendetta to damage Musharraf, so he came and started giving negative and false statements about the economy. Later he was criticised by the business community for doing so. As Nawaz’s intention wasn’t to help Pakistan he quickly made all his ministers resign and take the back seat as he always likes doing, shying away from trouble. The people who voted for Nawaz just totally wasted their time as he won a lot of seats but refused to be part of the of the problem solving.

Where is Kashif Abbasi? Speech – Not As Free As It Used To Be!

Kashif Abbasi, who was allowed by a ‘Dictator’ to speak his mind and criticize the then government in a media campaign which eventually saw the ‘Dictator’ resign, has been kicked off the airwaves by our ‘Democratic’ Government. Irony at its best. The free-wheeling liberal social democratic facade is starting to peel as the current government now resorts to tactics not even ‘Dictators’ indulge in.The stifling of contrary opinion is normally only done in one of two cases: a desperate measure to veil weaknesses, or to shore up strength and consensus. No prizes for guessing which applies here.

Since the CIA engineered election, Pakistan’s national honour has been dragged through the filth at home and abroad. With opinion ratings for the current government barely above sea-level, the people of Pakistan are waking up to the fraud of democracy.

Fighting the Corrupt Journalists in Pakistan

Many of the top journalists have been bought out by the State, using the office of the Press Information Department which is an arm of the Ministry of “Information”. Many of their lesser known colleagues get away with low level blackmailing.

We have highlighted recently the land deals for Nazir Naji, Rauf Klasra and Mohammad Malick and the dangerous ideological affiliations (pro-Taliban) of superstars like Kamran Khan, Hamid Mir and Ansar Abbasi who have since the Ch Iftikhar upheaval become the darlings of the couch-potato public through their TV appearances.

Comparative Study Of Barack Hussein Obama And Asif Ali Zardari

Election of Barack Hussein Obama as 44th President of USA was as astounding as that of Asif Ali Zardari as 12th President of Pakistan. Obama suffered from serious handicaps of being black and half Muslim, looked down upon by the white Americans. His promise of change catapulted his popularity and gave him a distinct edge over McCain who wanted to pursue flawed policies of Bush. He is loved by the Afro-Americans, the Hispanics and the Asians settled in USA in particular, and the white Americans have grudgingly reposed confidence in him because of his outstanding qualities.

Zardari came on the centre stage because of divine intervention. Had Benazir not been assassinated, Zardari would have remained a non-entity. He hopped into presidential chair despite carrying the weight of his corrupt and criminal past and endowed with average qualities. His election was manipulative rather than competitive. His election was rejoiced since the nation had gone through rigours of eight year inglorious rule of Musharraf who had become the most reviled man in the country. Zardari became the most powerful president of an economically impoverished third world country dubbed as one of the most corrupt, most dangerous in the world and ranked 10th among the failed states.

Global Depression And Regional Wars

All the idols of capitalism over the past three decades have crashed. The assumptions and presumptions, paradigms and prognosis of indefinite progress under liberal free market capitalism have been tested and have failed. We are living the end of an entire epoch (and bearing witness to) the collapse of the US and world financial system.

Today’s global crisis reflects an unsustainable system – crisis-prone, unstable, anarchic, ungovernable, self-destructive, and eventually doomed to collapse. Its early death throes may now be audible – despite intense “psycho-babble” reengineering of facts to portray the current situation as a “failure of leadership….lack of understanding….willful ignorance of what markets need, (and) loss of confidence.”

Israel planned Iran strike during unrest: Report

As Iran was grappling with the post-election unrest, Israel was reportedly preparing to strike the country’s nuclear facilities, a US diplomatic source says.

According to the US diplomat who is based in Jerusalem (al Quds), Israel asked the US administration for a green light to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities and its other vital structures in the aftermath of the country’s post-election turmoil.

Don’t Nuke the SCO!

Thermonuke-armed China, thermonuke-armed Russia will continue to treat Iran as a SCO quasi-member, preventing any meaningful sanctions from being imposed on Iran, cooperating with other SCO members and observers in the production of energy (gas, oil, uranium), all the while insisting before the IAEA Board and the UN Security Council that the concerns of the IAEA Director-General – soon to be Yukiya Amano – about the peaceful nature of Iran’s IAEA Safeguarded programs ought to be satisfied, peacefully.

Of course, Bonkers Bolton and the Likudniks will never be satisfied, even if Amano is. Those paranoids consider Iran’s IAEA Safeguarded programs – continually monitored and verified to be perfectly peaceful – to be an existential threat to the Zionist regime.

Endless War: The Suicide of the United States

In April 2008, the RAND Corporation released a stunning report revealing, “Nearly 20 percent of military service members who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan – 300,000 in all – report symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder or major depression, yet only slightly more than half have sought treatment.”

The situation continues to worsen. In the six months leading up to March 31, 2008, 1,467 veterans died while waiting to learn if their disability claim would be approved by the government. The average duration of an appeal pending a VA decision on disability claims is 1,608 days, which amounts to nearly four and a half years.

India plans to build 100 warships

Captain Alok Bhatnagar, director of naval plans at India’s ministry of defence, said on Thursday that 32 warships and submarines were under construction in the country’s shipyards. Work on 75 more ships, including aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates and amphibious vessels would begin.

New Delhi is sensitive to lagging behind Beijing’s naval might in the region. China has three times the number of combat vessels as India and five times the personnel. Officials are wary of port developments in neighbouring Pakistan and Sri Lanka that offer Chinese warships anchorages and potentially greater control of the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea.

China Should Break India Into Smaller Pieces

A Chinese strategist finds that there is no single united India and that the country is actually made up of several competing power centers that can be easily split apart.  This will surely abort the American-British plans for turning India into their new slave-soldier in Asia.  The strategist also finds that India is a ‘Hindu religious state’ and not a secular state as it claims, and that Hinduism is a decadent religion hindering India’s progress with its outdated caste divisions.

The Color Revolutions: From Orange to Green

Since the 1990s, America’s successive Zionist administrations have carried several ‘color revolutions’ in Eastern Europe, South America, the Middle East and Asia. Funding millions of dollars to rig elections, engineered mass demonstrations and political assassinations – has been the trademark of such color revolutions – which have been carried out in Serbia (Bulldozer), Georgia (Rose), Nicaragua, Ukraine (Orange), Kyrgyzstan (Tulip), Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan (Black), Occupied Palestine, Lebanon (Cedar), Kuwait (Blue), Myanmar (Safron), Tibet (Crimson), and recently in Islamic Iran (Green).

Swine Flu Pandemic: Pentagon Planning Deployment of Troops in Support of Nationwide Vaccination

According to CNN, the Pentagon is “to establish regional teams of military personnel to assist civilian authorities in the event of a significant outbreak of the H1N1 virus this fall, according to Defense Department officials.”

The pharmaceutical industry is slated to deliver 160 million vaccine doses by the Fall, enough doses to vaccinate more than half of America’s population. The Pentagon is already planning on the number of troops to be deployed,. with a view to supporting a mass vaccination program.

World Health Officials Say Two Billion People May Contract Swine Flu

The World Health Organization predicts the H1N1 Swine Flu virus will infect two billion people, or one out of every three persons, over the next two years. While this flu has already killed hundreds , the WHO says several thousands more could die unless an effective vaccine is developed soon.

Governments Stockpile H1N1 Pandemic Body Bags

As concerns grow of a possible flu pandemic onslaught this autumn, alert authorities worldwide have been stockpiling emergency supplies. Masks, gloves and anti-viral medications are on the list. And body bags!

TREVOR OWEN recently shipped several thousand of the thick plastic bags – sewn in its Scarborough factory and touted for their ability to “prevent leakage and seepage of bodily fluids” – to Alberta. It is bidding on a contract to supply Ohio with 12,500 of the white woven polyethylene pandemic bags.

UK unemployment hits 14 year-high, reaches 2.44 million

According to new figures, Britain’s unemployment rate reached a 14-year high of 2.44 million, undermining hopes that the country is all set to emerge from recession. The number of jobless people increased by 220,000 in the three months to June due to which unemployment hit its peak since 1995.

Market Review: Weakening Dollar, Rising Urban Unemployment

On Wednesday the Treasury’s five-year auction yield was 2.69% with 21.15% allotted at the high and bid to cover was 1.92 to 1. The average of the past ten auctions has been 2.20%. Indirect, central bank participation was 35.7% versus an average of 36.8%. Overall that was weak demand. Do not forget the Treasury has to raise $2 trillion by 9/30/09.

The result of these mediocre to poor auctions has to be more pressure on the dollar, as budget deficits continue to widen.

Entering the Greatest Depression in History: More Bubbles Waiting to Burst

While there is much talk of a recovery on the horizon, commentators are forgetting some crucial aspects of the financial crisis. The crisis is not simply composed of one bubble, the housing real estate bubble, which has already burst. The crisis has many bubbles, all of which dwarf the housing bubble burst of 2008. Indicators show that the next possible burst is the commercial real estate bubble. However, the main event on the horizon is the “bailout bubble” and the general world debt bubble, which will plunge the world into a Great Depression the likes of which have never before been seen.

The Plot To Destroy The US Dollar

PLOTTING THE DESTRUCTION OF THE US DOLLAR and the weakening of its role as the reserve-currency in the global market, was the underlying agenda of the Bilderberg Group, which convened its most ominous meeting to date in Greece on May 14-17, 2009.

Sad to say, most Americans continue to swallow the lies being told them by the Jewish-occupied press, that bailing out Wall Street bankers will solve the economic crisis – never once raising any objection to the trillions of dollars that have been stolen from them.

Bombshell: Osama Bin Laden worked for US until 9/11

Former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds dropped a bombshell on the Mike Malloy radio show, guest-hosted by Brad Friedman (audio, partial transcript).

In the interview, Sibel says that the US maintained ‘intimate relations’ with Bin Laden, and the Taliban, “all the way until that day of September 11.”

These ‘intimate relations’ included using Bin Laden for ‘operations’ in Central Asia, including Xinjiang, China. These ‘operations’ involved using al Qaeda and the Taliban in the same manner “as we did during the Afghan and Soviet conflict,” that is, fighting ‘enemies’ via proxies.

Pictures From Pro-Musharraf Rally In London: Musharraf gets more sympathy, Thanks to Nawaz – Pak Alert Press

Posted by Uzair on August 18, 2009

Former President Musharraf failed in the most basic task the Pakistani people expected of him: To reform the destructive Pakistani politics.  He shunned good advice, allied with the corrupt and then passed NRO, bringing to power all those who were tried, tested and discredited in the 1990s.  For educated Pakistanis to spend money from their own pockets to come down to London and rally in Mr. Musharraf’s support, it means something.  Mr. Nawaz Sharif and Mr. Asif Zardari would have to pay money to organize such events and even then they wouldn’t attract most educated middle class Pakistanis.  So why these people are spending their own money to organize this event despite Mr. Musharraf’s failures?  This shows how disappointed most Pakistanis have become with the politics and the political system in their homeland.  Nowhere else in the world are politics so violent, destructive and monopolized by a few like they are in Pakistan. [Reporting, article and pictures below by Farah Mazhar in London representing The Musharraf Supporters Alliance UK.]

Monday, 17 August 2009.

LONDON, England—Thank you very much for yesterday.  I think it was a brilliant effort and display of passion for President Musharraf.

It was organized by a small group of volunteers, The Musharraf Supporters Alliance UK.

I was really amazed by the enthusiasm of many who had travelled from various Universities and other cities just by receiving the message from the Internet.

There were people from all walks of life, particularly the elderly who said they had huge concerns regarding Pakistan and who criticized the leadership of Zardari and Nawaz and CJ Chaudhry.  They also criticized the meddling of Britain’s Lord Nazir in Pakistani politics.

They further said it is their concern for Pakistan that has brought them out and to the street.  They consider Musharraf has a thought process and grip on all the national and international challenges Pakistan faces at present.

Most of the people were politically aware, disillusioned at the current situation of Pakistan and tired of seeing a new chapter of the ‘tug of war’ politics of Nawaz, CJ Chaudhry, Zardari and their joint revenge policies against Musharraf, who had a reconciliatory approach towards all of them.

It was heartening to see many young ladies and their support for Musharraf.  It is for the first time that educated young students from Pakistan came to support a political leader.  Norm of Pakistani society is that women just support or attend the rally wherever their father or brother accompanies them.

Yesterday I think every individual who came there had made a sacrifice of their time, faced the delays of London Underground, spent money from their pockets and came to support Musharraf without getting any benefit out of it.  Whereas the rallies organized by Nawaz and PPP are funded from the pockets of their party ‘owner-leaders’.

Yesterdays protest was fuelled with passion of Musharraf Supporters.  Remind you the call for this rally did not come from Pervez Musharraf.

Everyone present considered Musharraf a moderate leader who facilitated democracy and the core message was:

Musharraf might be in uniform when he took the office but in past eight years he has transformed and emerged as a mature politician.  Despite the manner in which both Nawaz and Zardari won votes, there is every likelihood that people still would like to see Musharraf back into power.”

Media people asked some interesting questions one of them being

1.  Do you Support what Musharraf did at Lal Masjid?

Response was: If whatever happened at Red Mosque was wrong than whatever action present government is taking in Swat is wrong
If Swat is right now then Red Mosque was right as well.

2. The most asked question was: Do you support a dictator?

The response was different but two versions I will quote:

a. Musharraf was never a dictator.  Musharraf gave us freedom of expression and civil liberties.

b. We would never support military rule but during Musharraf’s reign, it was not military rule.

Musharraf was more of a civil general and much better than the dictatorial and autocratic Nawaz and Zardari who like act and behave as dictators and crave absolute powers.

Also there was a visible shift in people’s thoughts and their perception.  A realization is growing that a democracy under PPP and Nawaz is worse than Musharraf’s rule.  Therefore, they support Musharraf.

There were people from working class as well who attended the rally.

Note : Please feel free to circulate this along with photographs along with your own videos and clips, photographes.

If Musharraf Committed Treason, The Chief Justice ‘Abetted’ Him, Will He Order To Hang Himself Too? Pak Alert Press

Posted by Uzair on August 12, 2009

Is this a crime or not?  If not, why the judges of 2007 are criminals but not the judges of 2000?

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan—Is Mr. Ansar Abbasi right about invoking Article 6 of the Constitution against former President Pervez Musharraf?

A dispassionate analysis of the said article of the Constitution proves that he is not right.

Article 6 states in clause 2 that “any person aiding or abetting the acts mentioned in clause 1 shall likewise be guilty of high treason”.

Article 6 cannot be applied selectively on President Musharraf alone but will have to be applied equally on all those who ‘abetted’ him.

Musharraf abrogated the Constitution twice.  First in October 1999.  It was a coup against an elected prime minister.  Very few judges objected to the takeover and a majority of the judges took oath under the PCO, Parliament was dissolved and remained suspended for more than three years (endorsed by the Supreme Court) until it was reinstated in November 2002.  The second was in November 2007 when the so called emergency rule was imposed.  Interestingly, this was not a coup.  The move targeted the judiciary.  The government and the Parliament remained intact and the emergency lasted for six weeks.

Once Mr. Musharraf is charged for treason, justice cannot be selectively applied only on the action of 3 November 2007 while ignoring the more serious action of October 1999.  It will therefore be imperative to try Musharraf and his abettors both for October 1999 and November 2007.

Now comes the one million dollar question:  Will Article 6 be applied on the abettors of the two arrogations?

The ‘abettors’ in the Article 6 include senior members of the present Supreme Court who abetted the coup in 1999.  All members of the present Supreme Court of Pakistan had pledged their allegiance to Musharraf by taking the PCO oath in 2000.

The abettors of the coups led by generals Ayub, Yahya, and Zia ul Haq can be set aside because they and most of their abettors are no longer alive.  But the ‘abettors’ of General Musharraf’s coup are around.  All of them will have to be charged for treason along with Gen. Musharraf.  That is the only that across-the-board justice will be done.

Do Ansar Abbasi and Hamid Mir want to proceed with this mass trial?

My advice is this: Let’s get out of the Musharraf-phobia and move on with life and the more important issues that the Nation is facing.

Biography: Pervez Musharraf

General (ret) Pervez Musharraf (Urdu: پرویز مشرف) (born 11 August 1943), NI(M), TBt, rcds, afwc, psc, gsc is a former President of Pakistan and a former Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army.

He took power on 12 October 1999, ousting Nawaz Sharif, the elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, by effecting a military coup d’état. He dismissed the national and provincial legislative assemblies, assumed the title of Chief Executive and became Pakistan’s de facto head of government, thereby becoming the fourth Army chief of Pakistan to have assumed executive control. Later, in 2001, Musharraf appointed himself to the office of President. After Musharraf announced his intention to combat extremists, Western countries (including the United States and the United Kingdom) switched from a policy of sanctions to active support through military and monetary aid.

On 3 November 2007, only days before a panel of the Supreme Court of Pakistan was to decide on a petition challenging the constitutional validity of his re-election as president in the controversial October 2007 elections, he, as Chief of Army Staff, suspended the constitution, jailed several justices and lawyers of the supreme court including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, ordered the arrest of political dissidents and human rights activists, and shut down all private television channels. On 3 November 2007, Musharraf declared a state of emergency in Pakistan which lasted until 15 December 2007. During this time, the constitution of the country was suspended

On 24 November 2007, the Pakistan Election Commission confirmed his re-election as President.

On 18 August 2008, Pervez Musharraf resigned from the post of President under impeachment pressure from the coalition government. Consequently, his website was removed since he was no longer President. He was succeeded on 6 September 2008 by Asif Ali Zardari, duly elected as Pakistan’s 11th President since 1956.

Early life

Pervez Musharraf was born on 18 August 1943 in Nahr wali Haveli, situated in Kacha Saad Ullah Mohallah, Daryaganj in Delhi, British India. He is from a family of civil servants. After Musharraf’s grandfather, Qazi Mohtashimuddin, retired as the commissioner of undivided Punjab he bought Neharwali Haveli in the old walled city of Delhi where Musharraf was born. The haveli, with its high roofs and arches, is believed to have been the home of a “Wazir” (Minister) in the court of Bahadur Shah Zafar — the last Mughal emperor of the 19th century.[10] After partition, Musharraf’s family migrated to Pakistan where his father, Syed Musharraf Uddin — a graduate of Aligarh University — joined the Pakistan foreign service and later retired as Secretary of foreign affairs. Musharraf’s mother, Zarin, received her master’s degree from the University of Lucknow in 1944. She recently retired from the UNO agency in ISB.

He revealed in his memoirs that he was critically injured after falling from a mango tree as a teenager, and he considers this his first direct experience with death.[11]

Musharraf attended Saint Patrick’s School, Karachi, graduating in 1958, later attending Forman Christian College in Lahore. He is said to have been good in mathematics during his student days.

Musharraf is married to Sehba, who is from Okara. They have a son, Bilal, who was a graduate student at Stanford University and currently works in Silicon Valley, and a daughter, Ayla Raza, who works as an architect in Karachi.

Military Career

In 1961, he entered the Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul, graduating 11th in his class. He was commissioned on April 19, 1964 in the Artillery Regiment. Later he joined the Special Services Group and was posted to Field Artillery Regiments. A graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and the National Defence College, Rawalpindi, Musharraf is also a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies of the United Kingdom. Musharraf revealed in his memoirs that in 1965 he was charged with taking unauthorized leave and was about to be court-martialed for it, but was excused due to the war with India.

Indo-Pakistani wars

Musharraf participated in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 16 (SP) Field Artillery Regiment. His regiment saw action as part of the First Armoured Division’s offensive in the Khemkaran sector; as part of a major offensive against the Indian Army, the Pakistani army advanced 15 miles (24 km) into India and it was in the town of Khem Karan that Musharraf wrote his first letter to his mother during the war “proudly saying that I was writing from India”. However, despite the initial success and even though possessing a quantitative advantage and significant superiority in armour, the 1st armoured division (labelled “Pride of the Pakistan Army”) suffered a “crushing defeat” at Khemkaran, which became known as “Patton Nagar” or graveyard of Pakistani tanks. By all accounts the vital advance failed at the Battle of Asal Uttar, as Pakistan lost a golden opportunity to make major strategic gains; this was a turning point in the war. His regiment was later moved to the Lahore front, which was threatened by the Indian Army. According to Musharraf, “Having stabilized the Lahore front, we were ordered to move again to the Sialkot front. This was where the famous tank battles of Chawinda were fought. At the end of the war this sector was to become a graveyard of Indian tanks.”. During the war Musharraf was noted for sticking to his post under shellfire. Towards the end of the war an Indian shell hit one of the artillery guns of Musharraf’s unit and set it on fire. According to Musharraf, whilst everyone else took cover, he, followed by a soldier, “dashed to the blazing gun” and removed the “hot shells” one by one and “threw them to safety on the ground”. For this he received an award for gallantry and was promoted to the rank of captain.

Later, in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, he served as a Company Commander in the Special Service Group (SSG) Commando Battalion. Originally scheduled to be flown to East Pakistan along with other SSG troops, he was redeployed in Punjab as war broke out and all flights over India were cancelled. He later admitted that he “broke down and wept” when he heard the “disgusting” news of Pakistan’s unconditional surrender to India.[17] Later he commanded regiments of artillery, an Artillery Brigade and then an infantry division. In September 1987, he was instrumental in giving orders to a newly formed SSG at Khapalu base (Kashmir), which launched an assault and successfully captured two intermediate posts, Bilafond La in Siachen Glacier, before being pushed back.

On promotion to the rank of Major General on 15 January 1991, he was assigned the command of an infantry Division. Later, on promotion to Lieutenant General on 21 October 1995 he took over command of 1 Corps, the elite strike corps. In 1998, following the resignation of General Jehangir Karamat, he was personally promoted over other senior officers by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and took over as the Army Chief of Staff and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Role in Kargil Conflict

From May to July 1999, Pakistan and India were involved in the Kargil Conflict, an armed conflict between the two countries in the Kargil district of Kashmir. It was planned and executed during General Musharraf’s term as the Pakistani Army Chief of Staff under Prime Minister Sharif.

Sharif has claimed that Musharraf was solely responsible for the Kargil attacks. On the other hand, Musharraf claims that the decision was made by Sharif, who was under United States pressure. Ex-CENTCOM Commander Anthony Zinni, and Sharif, have stated that Musharraf requested that the Prime Minister withdraw Pakistani troops from Kashmir.

Casualties on both sides had been particularly heavy in Kargil. Musharraf had good relations with Jehangir Karamat from whom he took over the command. Soon after the coup, one of the first to be appointed as minister was journalist Maleeha Lodhi who was close to Jehangir Karamat. Also recruited was Shaukat Aziz (who served as the country’s Prime Minister later) who volunteered to improve the economy. Western banks rescheduled Pakistani loans, which had been subjected to economic sanctions since Pakistan conducted atomic testing.

Pervez Musharraf resigned from the Army on 28 November 2007 in an attempt to regularize his position as President.

Military coup d’état

Musharraf became de facto Head of Government (using the title Chief Executive and assuming extensive powers) of Pakistan following a bloodless coup d’état on 12 October 1999. That day, Sharif attempted to dismiss Musharraf and install Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director Ziauddin Butt in his place. Musharraf, who was out of the country, boarded a commercial airliner to return to Pakistan. Senior army generals refused to accept Musharraf’s dismissal, which was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

Sharif ordered the Karachi airport closed to prevent the landing of the airliner, which then circled the skies over Karachi. In the coup, the Generals ousted Sharif’s administration and took over the airport. The plane landed, allegedly with only a few minutes of fuel to spare, and Musharraf assumed control of the government. Sharif was put under house arrest and later exiled to Saudia Arabia, where he resided until he returned again to Pakistan on 25 November 2007.

He and other leaders have subsequently been prevented from entering Pakistan. Although the disagreement between Musharraf and Sharif started from the day Nawaz Sharif ordered withdrawal of troops from Kargil it reportedly centred around the Prime Minister’s desire to find a diplomatic resolution to the conflict with India in the Kashmir region.

The existing President of Pakistan, Rafiq Tarar, remained in office until June 2001. Musharraf formally appointed himself President on 20 June 2001, just days before his scheduled visit to Agra for talks with India.

Foreign policy

Support for the War on Terrorism

Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Musharraf sided with the United States against the Taliban government in Afghanistan after an ultimatum by U.S. President George W. Bush. Musharraf agreed to give the United States the use of three airbases for Operation Enduring Freedom. United States Secretary of State Colin Powell and other administration officials met with Musharraf. On 19 September 2001, Musharraf addressed the people of Pakistan and stated that, while he opposed military tactics against the Taliban, Pakistan risked being endangered by an alliance of India and the U.S. if it did not cooperate.[24] In 2006, Musharraf testified that this stance was pressured by threats from the U.S., and revealed in his memoirs that he had “war-gamed” the United States as an adversary and decided that it would end in a loss for Pakistan.[25]

The leadership in Pakistan war-gamed the USA and NATO as an enemy and realized that it was worthless committing suicide over the obstinate Taliban. Pakistan’s stagnated economy had only slightly started recovering, after being tagged as one of the highest indebted countries. Galvanizing the whole nation into agreeing to fight the USA and NATO was another impossible task. Indian eagerness to join the War on Terror was an alarming condition that Pakistan could not have over-looked. Indian jets flying over Pakistan’s space, with the Strategic assets’ lying below were a suicidal recipe. An accidental Indian bomb dropped on the Kahuta plant would have created disaster.[2]. Pakistan drew up plans to secure its NWFP border along Afghanistan. Around 80,000 troops were placed to patrol and were assigned specific targets.

Relations with India

Musharraf was Chief of Army Staff at the time of Mujahideen incursions into India from Pakistan-administered Kashmir in the summer of 1999. Although Pakistan claimed that these were Kashmiri freedom fighters based in Indian-controlled Kashmir, later developments showed that they were Pakistani paramilitary soldiers backing up the separatists on the mountain top. After fierce fighting, Pakistani soldiers were pulled back due to pressure from the international community.

However, in Battle Ready, a book co-authored by ex-CENTCOM Commander in Chief Anthony Zinni and novelist Tom Clancy, the former alleges that Musharraf was the one who pushed Sharif to withdraw the Pakistani troops after being caught in a losing scenario. According to an ex-official of the Musharraf government, Hassan Abbas, Musharraf planned the whole operation and sold the idea to Sharif. The view that Musharraf wanted to attempt the Kargil infiltrations much earlier was also revealed by Bhutto in an interview with a leading daily newspaper, where he had supposedly boasted that “he would hoist the flag of Pakistan atop the Srinagar Assembly” if his plan was executed.[28] Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML(N)), a leading Pakistan party added that Musharraf had planned the Kargil intrusions but panicked when the conflict broke out with India and decided to alert Sharif. Since the Kargil incident occurred just after the Lahore Peace Summit earlier that year, Musharraf is often regarded with scepticism in India.

In the middle of 2004, Musharraf began a series of talks with India to solve the Kashmir dispute. Both leaders also discussed the following issues: Wullar Barrage and Kishangaga power project, Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River being built by India in Jammu and Kashmir, disputed Sir Creek estuary at the mouth of the Rann of Kutch, Siachin glacier, issues of Gurdaspur and Ferozepur’s status, minority rights, Indian contentions that Pakistan is sponsoring “cross-border” terrorism.

In 2007, Musharraf stated, after a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that the current push to normalize relations between the two states is “irreversible.”

Richard Armitage comments

During a 24 September 2006 interview with Steve Kroft on 60 Minutes, Musharraf said that then-U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage had called Musharraf’s intelligence director shortly following the 9/11 attacks and threatened military action if Pakistan did not support the U.S.-led “war on terror”. According to Musharraf, Armitage warned: “Be prepared to be bombed. Be prepared to go back to the Stone Age.” Furthermore, during an interview with Jon Stewart of The Daily Show on 26 September 2006, Musharraf stated that then-Secretary of State Colin Powell also contacted him with a similar message: “You are with us or against us.” Musharraf refused to elaborate further, citing the then-upcoming release of his book, In the Line of Fire: A Memoir (ISBN 0-7432-8344-9). Armitage has, however, categorically denied that the U.S. used such harsh words to threaten Pakistan, whereas President Bush has refrained from publicly acknowledging the possibility of the exact wordings being used.

Nuclear proliferation

One of the most widely-reported controversies during Musharraf’s administration arose as a consequence of the disclosure of nuclear proliferation by Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the metallurgist known as the father of Pakistan’s bomb. Musharraf has denied knowledge of or participation by Pakistan’s government or army in this proliferation and has faced bitter domestic criticism for singularly vilifying Khan, a former national hero. Khan has been pardoned in exchange for cooperation in the investigation, but is still under house arrest.

Relations with China

Musharraf accused Western leaders and media of politicizing the 2008 Summer Olympics by criticizing China’s human rights record and its policy in Tibet. He also said he would cooperate with China, which is a historical ally to Pakistan, in the fight against terrorism.

President Musharraf was internally Pro-China and kept the strategic relations intact. During President Musharraf’s government, China for the first time allowed a Pakistani president access to one of its most advanced and secret military research facilities, a great honor for President Musharraf.

Relations with Saudi Arabia

Pakistan’s relationship with Saudi Arabia continues to grow. After his coup in October 1999, Riyadh was the first foreign capital General Pervez Musharraf visited, to signify the importance he gave to PAK-Saudi relations.

King Abdullah’s first visit to Pakistan in 2006 as ruler, he was welcomed at the airport by both President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shawkat Aziz, a reflection of the strong ties between the two nations. Hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis lined the road from the airport to welcome the Saudi King. President Musharraf and the Saudi King, take a common stand on the war on terror and expanding trade ties, as well as international issues such as Kashmir, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Iraq, Iran’s nuclear program, Afghanistan and reform of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). President Musharraf honored King Abdullah by conferring upon him Pakistan’s highest civil award, Nishan-e-Pakistan, in a colorful investiture ceremony at the presidential palace.

On 21 Jan 2007, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah conferred the King Abdul Aziz Medallion, the Kingdom’s top honor, on Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf during a ceremony at his palace in Riyadh. The first Pakistani leader ever to receive this highest Saudi honor.

Domestic issues

Actions Against Corruption (Anti-graft law)

On 17 November 1999 the drive against big loan defaulters, including politicians and industrialists, was launched this morning, hours after the midnight expiry of a four-week deadline for voluntary returns which yielded minimal response.

The crackdown coincided with promulgation of a harsher Anti-Corruption law providing for barring of economic offenders from holding public office for 21 years and imprisonment for up to 14 years.

The Ordinance, promulgated by President Mohammad Rafiq Tarar, also provides for setting up of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to expeditiously pursue all cases of economic offences with retrospective effect from January one, 1985.

The Ordinance was issued following disappointing recoveries during the deadline period that saw the defaulters cough up of an estimated Rs 700 crore—a little more than three per cent of the total bad loans exceeding Rs 21,000 crore.

2002 elections

Shortly after Musharraf’s takeover, several people filed court petitions challenging his assumption of power. However, he got The Oath of Judges Order 2000 issued. It required the judges to take a fresh oath of office swearing allegiance to military rule and to state they would make no decisions against the military. Many judges refused and resigned in protest. On 12 May 2000, the Supreme Court asked Musharraf to hold national elections by 12 October 2002; elections for local governments took place in 2001.

In an attempt to legitimize his presidency and assure its continuance after the approaching restoration of democracy, he held a referendum on 30 April 2002[37] to extend his term to five years after the October elections. The voter turnout was 80 percent by most estimates, amidst claims of irregularities. A few weeks later, Musharraf went on TV and apologized to the nation for “irregularities” in the referendum.

In August 2002, he passed the Legal Framework Order which provided for the general elections of 2002 and the revival of the 1973 Constitution, but added numerous amendments to the Constitution. The Supreme Court rejected part of the Order.

General elections were held in October 2002 and a plurality of the seats in the Parliament was won by the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) (PML-Q), a pro-Musharraf party. It formed a majority coalition with independents and allies such as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). However, parties opposed to Musharraf effectively paralysed the National Assembly for over a year. The following month, Musharraf handed over certain powers to the newly elected Parliament. The National Assembly elected Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali as Prime Minister, who in turn appointed his own cabinet.

In December 2003, Musharraf made a deal with Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, a six-member coalition of Islamic parties, agreeing to leave the army by 31 December 2004. With that party’s support, pro-Musharraf legislators were able to muster the two-thirds supermajority required to pass the Seventeenth Amendment, which retroactively legalized Musharraf’s 1999 coup and many of his decrees. In late 2004, Musharraf went back on his agreement with the MMA and pro-Musharraf legislators in the Parliament passed a bill allowing Musharraf to keep both offices. Constitution Article 63 clause (1) paragraph (d), read with proviso to Article 41 clause (7) paragraph (b), allows the President to hold dual office.

Denunciation of extremism

On 12 January 2002, Musharraf gave a landmark speech against Islamic extremism, a few months after September 11. He unequivocally condemned all acts of terrorism and pledged to combat Islamic extremism and lawlessness within Pakistan itself.

At the same time as banning foreign funding of Islamic educational institutions, he made it compulsory for them to teach a whole host of additional subjects such as computing. This meant that many had to close due to the halt of funds from Pakistanis working abroad resulting in not being able to teach the additional subjects that he had made compulsory. Musharraf also instituted prohibitions on foreign students’ access to studying Islam within Pakistan, an effort which began as an outright ban but was later reduced to restrictions on obtaining visas.

In 2004, he proposed “Enlightened Moderation” as an alternative to Islamic fundamentalism. On 18 September 2005, Musharraf made a historic speech before a broad based audience of Jewish leadership, sponsored by the American Jewish Congress’s Council for World Jewry, in New York City. In the speech, he denounced terrorism and opened the door to relationships between Pakistan and Israel, as well as between the Muslim world and Jews worldwide. He was widely criticized by Middle Eastern Arab leaders and Muslim clerics, but was met with some praise among Jewish leadership.

On 13 September 2007, 300 Pakistani troops were captured by Islamic militants. Terrorists then bombed Musharraf’s own SSG unit, killing 16, and launched rocket attacks in the North-West Frontier province and Tribal areas.

Assassination attempts

In 2000 Kamram Atif, allegedly a member of Harkat-ul Mujahideen al-Alami, tried to assassinate Musharraf. Atif was sentenced to death in 2006 by an Anti Terrorism Court.

On 14 December 2003, Musharraf survived an assassination attempt when a powerful bomb went off minutes after his highly-guarded convoy crossed a bridge in Rawalpindi. It was the third such attempt during his four-year rule. On 25 December 2003, two suicide bombers tried to assassinate Musharraf, but their car bombs failed to kill him; 16 others nearby died instead. Musharraf escaped with only a cracked windscreen on his car. Militant Amjad Farooqi was apparently suspected of being the mastermind behind these attempts, and was killed by Pakistani forces in 2004 after an extensive manhunt.

On 6 July 2007, there was another attempted assassination, when an unknown group fired a 7.62 submachine gun at Musharraf’s plane as it took off from a runway in Rawalpindi. Security also recovered 2 anti-aircraft guns, from which no shots had been fired. On 17 July 2007, Pakistani police detained 39 people in relation to the attempted assassination of Musharraf. They were detained at an undisclosed location by a joint team of Punjab Police, the Federal Investigation Agency and other Pakistani intelligence agencies.

2004 confidence vote

PML-Q led government with the help of the religious parties the MMA, secured 2/3 majority in National assembly and Senate and constitionally validated Musharraf’s election.

On 1 January 2004 Musharraf had won a confidence vote in the Electoral College of Pakistan, consisting of both houses of Parliament and the four provincial assemblies. Musharraf received 658 out of 1170 votes, a 56 percent majority, but many opposition and Islamic members of parliament walked out to protest the vote. As a result of this vote, according to Article 41(8) of the Constitution of Pakistan, Musharraf was “deemed to be elected” to the office of President. His term was extended to 2007.

Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali resigned on 26 June 2004, after losing the support of the PML(Q). His resignation was at least partly due to his public differences with the party chairman Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and was rumoured to have happened at Musharraf’s command, although neither man has confirmed this. Jamali had been appointed with the support of Musharraf’s and the pro-Musharraf PML(Q). Most PML(Q) parliamentarians formerly belonged to the Pakistan Muslim League party led by Sharif, and most ministers of the cabinet were formerly senior members of other parties, joining the PML(Q) after the elections upon being offered powerful offices. It is believed that Musharraf replaced Jamali due to his poor performance and in his place Musharraf nominated Shaukat Aziz, the minister for finance and a former employee of Citibank and head of Citibank Private Banking as the new prime minister.

In 1999, under Nawaz Sharif, Revenue generation of around Rs.308 billion could not meet the growing expenditure requirements; with only an average of Rs.80 billion being spent on Public sector development programs (PSDP) annually, and no visible project to boast about. From this Rs.308 billion around 65% was being utilized for debt servicing. In 1988 Pakistan’s foreign debt was $18 billion, but at the end of 1999 it had accumulated to become $38 billion. A 100% increased burden on the already crippled economy. Public and external debt exceeded 300% of Foreign exchange earnings.

Pakistan’s Economic Comparison 1999 to 2007

  • Pakistan’s economy grew by 100% — to become $ 160 billion
  • Revenue grew by 100% — to become $ 11.4 billion
  • Per Capita Income grew by 100% — to become $ 925
  • Foreign Reserves grew by 500% — to become $ 17 billion
  • Exports grew by 100% — to become $ 18.5 billion
  • Textile exports grew by 100% — to become $ 11.2 billion

  • Poverty decreased by 10% — to become 24%
  • Literacy ratio grew by 10% — to become 54%
  • Public development Funds grew by 100% — to become Rs 520 billion

The vision and policies helped Pakistan come out of the list of Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) while setting it on path of prosperity, growth and economic reforms. The world financial institutions like the World Bank and IMF and ADB have been praising Pakistan for its reforms, fiscal policies and macro-economic achievements.

Poverty alleviation

Pakistan show tremendous reduction in poverty during the period 2000 – 2007. According official figures, the poverty level dropped from 34% to 24% and the overall living standard improves dramatically.

Under Musharraf’s tenure, Pakistan saw exceptional setup of 47 universities, including Virtual University, under the supervision of Higher Education Commission. Most of the universities were of international standards.

Pakistan now has a total of 245,682 educational institutions in all categories, including 164,579 (i.e. 67 per cent) in the public sector and 81,103 (i.e. 100 per cent) in the private sector, reports the National Education Census (NEC-2005). The census — jointly conducted by the Ministry of Education, the Academy of Educational Planning and Management (AEPAM) and the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) — reveals that the number of private-sector institutions has increased from 36,096 in 1999-2000 to 81,103 in 2005, i.e. by 100 per cent. 45,007 Educational Institutions have increased in Musharraf Era.

Women’s Rights

The credit for amending the Hudood ordinance[clarification needed] goes entirely to President Musharraf. He is the only leader who had shown tremendous courage and determination to amend a piece of legislation that had been a bane for women since 1979. A parliamentary bill becomes a law when it receives the presidential assent under Article 75 of the 1973 Constitution. The National Assembly voted in favor of the “Protection of Women bill” on 15 Nov 2006 and the Senate approved it on 23 Nov 2006. President General Pervez Musharraf signed into law the “Protection of Women Bill”, on 1 December 2006. The bill places rape laws under the penal code and does away with harsh conditions that previously required victims to produce four male witnesses and exposed them to prosecution for adultery if they were unable to prove the crime.

Increased reserved seats for women in assemblies, to increase women’s representation and make their presence more effective. Previously there were 20 seats reserved for women in national assembly now there are 60 seats for them. In provincial assemblies there were collectively seats 23 for women and now this figure is 128. This situation has brought out increase participation of women for 2002 and 2008 elections.

Ethnic Minorities Rights

General Pervez Musharraf upon assuming power promised protection of the rights of religious minorities and an end to the culture of religious intolerance. A Christian, Derick Cyprian, was appointed as a federal minister and the government undertook to repeal all discriminatory laws. There have been some positive developments in according basic rights to religious minorities, although in real terms their impact has been nullified by the growth of extremism and intolerance within the fabric of the society. General Musharraf has continued with his promise that religious minorities will be protected, and there are limited signs that Christians, Hindus (and, to a lesser extent, the Ahmaddiyas) are not being overtly discriminated against with regard to public positions. In August 2005, Justice Rana Bhagwandas (a Hindu) was sworn in as acting Chief Justice. Among noticeable positive steps taken by the military government are the declaration of the abolition of separate electorates, apparent curbs on extremist and sectarian groups, and a sense of inclusivity of all religious communities. The thaw in the relations with India allowed greater influx of Hindu and Sikh pilgrims and, during 2004-5, the Punjab government allocated funds to renovate the Krishna Mandir temple in Lahore. In addition, the Pakistani Constitution reserves 10 national assembly seats for religious minorities.[61]

Corruption issues

When Musharraf came to power, he claimed that the corruption in the government bureaucracy would be cleaned up. According to Transparency International, Pakistan has improved its ratings under Musharraf’s regime, from being the 11th most corrupt country to fall down to 41st.

In 2002, according to a survey by Transparency International, Pakistan’s rating improved from 11th most corrupt country in 2001 to 24th, according to a TI press release[63]

In 2007, according to Transparency International, Pakistan is clearly ranked 138th out of 179 countries. That places Pakistan as the 41st most corrupt country in 2007[64]

Suspension and reinstatement of the Chief Justice
On 9 March 2007, Musharraf suspended the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, pressing corruption charges against him and filed a reference against the Chief Justice, in the Supreme Judicial Council according to Article 209(2) and Article 209(5)(b) of the Constitution of Pakistan. Thus on 13 March 2007, when the Supreme Judicial Council met, it was headed by Acting Chief Justice Javed Iqbal.

Text of presidential reference against Chief Justice included:

1- There are complaints of orders being verbally announced in open court in favour of one party and subsequently a written order at variance from the order announced in court being delivered. Two such cases have acquired particular notoriety. In one of these two cases it is alleged that amounts as large as Rs.55million may have been involved.

2- Chief Justice had intimidated civil servants, including pressuring an administrator, to influence by his position to gain undue advantage by “insisting” on an increase and enhancement in his entitlements or in securing the relaxation of the rules in that respect.

3- Chief Justice influenced government offices to promote his son’s career. On 22 June 2005 Dr. Arsalan Iftikhar was appointed as Medical Officer/Demonstrator in the Institute of Public Health, Quetta.

4- Chief Justice Chaudhry had received hundreds of thousands of rupees for reimbursement of gasoline for his car. The receipts he submitted were for a pump that only sold diesel fuel. Chief Justice had claimed reimbursement for airfare for his wife and children when he was not entitled to claim it.

5- Chief Justice had arranged for the allotment of a plot of land in Karachi to which he was not entitled.

Musharraf’s moves sparked protests among Pakistani lawyers. On 12 March 2007, lawyers started Judicial Activism across Pakistan and began boycotting all court procedures in protest against the suspension. In Islamabad, as well as other cities such as Lahore, Karachi and Quetta, hundreds of lawyers dressed in black suits attended rallies, condemning the suspension as unconstitutional. Slowly the expressions of support for the ousted Chief Justice gathered momentum and by May, protesters and opposition parties took out huge rallies against Musharraf and his tenure as army chief was also challenged in the courts.

On 20 July, the Supreme Court reinstated Chaudhry. Delivering the court’s verdict, presiding Judge Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday said: “The reference [against Mr Chaudhry] has been set aside and the chief justice has been reinstated.”

“The president respects the decision of the Supreme Court,” Gen Musharraf’s spokesman was quoted as saying by the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan. “The president has stated earlier that any judgement the Supreme Court arrives at will be honoured, respected and adhered to,” the spokesman said.

“I would like to emphasise that we must all accept the verdict with grace and dignity reflective of a mature nation” Shaukat Aziz accepted Supreme Court verdict. All Federal ministers and senior Pakistan Muslim League leaders said the government had accepted the Supreme Court’s verdict to reinstate the chief justice of Pakistan.

PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari also has reportedly refused to reinstate the sacked chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, apparently due to the fear that the latter, if reinstated, might reopen for adjudication cases on the National Reconciliation Order. During a meeting of leaders of the ruling coalition in Lahore on 23 July 2008, Zardari repeatedly insisted on not reinstating Chaudhry, reported the Daily Times.

Lal Masjid siege

The Musharraf government was forced to act against the Lal Masjid militants, after they formally announced the establishment of a parallel judicial system. The pro-Taliban Lal Masjid administration vowed to enforce Islamic laws in the federal capital and threatened to unleash a wave of suicide bombers if the government took any action to counter it. “Our youth will commit suicide attacks, if the government impedes the enforcement of the Sharia and attacks Lal Masjid and its sister seminaries,” Maulana Abdul Aziz, the in-charge of the mosque said in his Friday sermon.

The standoff between the Pakistani government and the clerics of the Lal Masjid in Islamabad finally broke down on the morning of 8 July 2007, when the official government delegation led by Shujaat Hussain declared that the negotiations with the militants holed up in the mosque have reached an agreement. However, the clerics refused to release the hostages as promised by them in the agreement. Musharraf had given the militants some six months to lay down arms and abide the law of country.

The government managed to recover 1,300 men, women and children during the operation. Some of these women, who were recovered safely on the last day of the operation, had their written death wishes with them. Six hundred suicide bombers are present in Karachi revealed Qasim Toori and Danish alias Talha during interrogations by law-enforcement agencies. Most of the suicide bombers are also former students of Islamabad’s Lal Masjid.

Relations with Benazir Bhutto

Also on 8 August 2007, Benazir Bhutto spoke about her secret meeting with Musharraf on 27 July, in an interview on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

On 14 September 2007, Deputy Information Minister Tariq Azim stated that Bhutto won’t be deported, but must face corruption suits against her. He clarified Sharif’s and Bhutto’s right to return to Pakistan: “Nawaz Sharif’s case was different. He went back to Saudi Arabia because of an undertaking he had with the Saudi government; She (Bhutto) was always allowed to come back.” Pakistan People’s Party Farhatullah Babar said that Benazir Bhutto will forthwith declare the exact date of her return: “We are announcing the date of the return for Benazir Bhutto to Pakistan at 5:00 p.m. (1200 GMT)” (Makhdoom Amin Fahim will publish it at a news conference in Islamabad.” Musharraf faced a rising militant violence, with a suicide bombing killing 15 elite commandos on 13 September. Bhutto declared her return from eight years exile on 18 October. Makhdoom Amin Faheem, vice chair of Pakistan Peoples Party said that “Benazir Bhutto will be landing in Karachi on 18 October.”

On 17 September 2007, Bhutto accused Musharraf’s allies of pushing Pakistan to crisis by refusal to restore democracy and share power. Sheikh Rashid Ahmed stated that officials had agreed to grant Benazir Bhutto amnesty in pending corruption charges.

Musharraf called for a three day mourning period after Bhutto’s assassination on 27 December 2007

Resignation from the Army

On 2 October 2007, Musharraf named Lt. Gen. Ashfaq Kayani as vice chief of the army starting 8 October. When Musharraf resigned from military on 28 November 2007, Kayani became Chief of Army Staff.

Return of Nawaz Sharif

Sharif returned to Pakistan in September 2007, and was immediately arrested and taken into custody at the airport.

Saudi intelligence chief Prince Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz and Lebanese politician Saad Hariri arrived separately in Islamabad on 8 September 2007, the former with a message from Saudi King Abdullah and the latter after a meeting with Nawaz Sharif in London. After meeting President General Pervez Musharraf for two-and-a-half hours, Prince Muqrin and Hariri addressed an unprecedented joint press conference at Army House, telling journalists that “Nawaz was bound under the agreement not to return to Pakistan before ten years in exile. We sincerely hope that Nawaz Sharif honours this agreement,” Prince Muqrin said. Asked about the details of the agreement, Prince Muqrin waved a copy of the agreement to the media and said: “It is here and signed.”

On arrival in Saudi Arabia, Nawaz Sharif was received by Prince Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz, the Saudi intelligence chief, who had met Musharraf in Islamabad the previous day. That meeting had been followed by a rare press conference, at which he had warned that Sharif should not violate the terms of King Abdullah’s agreement of staying out of politics for 10 years.

2007 presidential elections

In an interview in March 2007, Musharraf said that he intends to stay in the office for another five years.

A nine-member panel of Supreme Court judges deliberated on six petitions (including Jamaat-e-Islami’s, Pakistan’s largest Islamic group) for disqualification of Musharraf as presidential candidate. Bhutto stated that her party may join other opposition groups, including Sharif’s. Attorney-general Malik Mohammed Qayyum stated that, pendente lite, the Election Commission was “reluctant” to announce the schedule for the presidential vote.

On 24 September 2007, the president of the Supreme Court bar association, Munir Malik, announced that former Supreme Court judge Wajihuddin Ahmed would challenge Musharraf in Pakistan’s October presidential election. Ahmad had little chance of defeating Musharraf (since the president is elected by parliament and provincial assemblies).

On 28 September 2007, in a 6-3 vote, the court presided by Judge Rana Bhagwandas ruled: “These petitions are held to be non-maintainable.” The judgment removed obstacles to Musharraf’s election bid.

1- PML-Q government passed a constitutional amendment in National Assembly, with 2/3 majority, also approved by Senate that allowed President Musharraf to hold dual offices.

2- Constitution of Pakistan – Article 63 clause (1) paragraph (d), read with proviso to Article 41 clause (7) paragraph (b), allows the President to hold dual office.

3- Supreme Court of Pakistan on 28 September 2007, allowed President Musharraf to stand for elections in October 2007.

4- President Musharraf was elected President of Pakistan, on 6 October 2007, by a combined electoral of the Senate, National Assembly and the FOUR Provincial Assembles.

5- President Musharraf won by 58% votes declared in November 2007, as the constitutional President of Pakistan!

Emergency declared in Pakistan

On 3 November 2007 Musharraf declared emergency rule across Pakistan. He suspended the Constitution, imposed State of Emergency, and fired the chief justice of the Supreme Court.[72] While addressing the nation on State Television, Musharraf declared that the state of emergency was imposed in the country. In Islamabad, troops entered the Supreme Court building, arrested the judges and kept them under detention in their homes. Troops were deployed inside state-run TV and radio stations, while independent channels went off air.

Pakistani general election, 2008

On 23 March 2008, President Musharraf said an “era of democracy” has begun in Pakistan. He has put the country “on the track of development and progress.” On 22 March, the Pakistan Peoples Party named former parliament speaker Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani as its candidate for the country’s next prime minister, to lead a coalition government united against him. A confirmation vote is scheduled for 24 March 2008 in parliament, and the prime minister would be sworn in by Musharraf 25 March 2008.

The statistics of the Election Commission, showed party position as follows, in the February 2008 elecions.

  • The PML-Q and its allies: 10,844,233 votes. (40%)
  • The PPP-P: 10,055,491 votes. (37%)
  • PML-N: 6,240,343 votes. (23%)
  • Total votes cast: 27.14 million

Impeachment movement and resignation

On 7 August 2008, the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League (N) agreed to force Musharraf to step down and begin his impeachment. Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif announced sending a formal request or joint charge sheet that he step down, and impeach him through parliamentary process upon refusal. Musharraf, however, said: “I will defeat those who try to push me to the wall. If they use their right to oust me, I have the right to defend myself.” Musharraf, accordingly delayed his departure for the Beijing Olympics, by a day. A senior coalition official told Reuters: “Yes, we have agreed in principle to impeach him.” The draft of the ruling coalition’s joint statement had been finalized by the draft Committee, and Musharraf would have to obtain vote of confidence from the National Assembly and 4 provincial assemblies. The government summoned the national assembly, or lower house of parliament, to sit on 11 August. Capt. Wasif Syed, spokesman for the Pakistan People’s Party — confirmed: “A decision has been made that he has to go now, and all the parties have agreed on this point.”. It is speculated that Pervez Musharraf would have had to face corruption and even murder charges if he had kept refusing a graceful exit from the president house.

On Monday, 18 August 2008, in a speech defending his record, Musharraf announced that he had resigned.

When announcing his resignation, Musharraf, 65, said: “After viewing the situation and consulting legal advisers and political allies, with their advice I have decided to resign. I leave my future in the hands of people. Not a single charge in the impeachment can stand against me. No charge can be proved against me because I never did anything for myself, it was all for Pakistan. On the map of the world, Pakistan is now an important country, by the grace of Allah. Whether I win or lose the impeachment, the nation will lose. They don’t realize they can succeed against me but the country will undergo irreparable damage. My resignation will go to the speaker of the National Assembly today.” In an emotional one-hour speech, Musharraf raised his clenched fists to chest height, and said, “Long live Pakistan!” Text of Musharraf’s speech and Musharraf’s Last speech

“Nonetheless, despite his mistakes, he has been that rare phenomenon in Pakistani politics — an honest man with good intentions who tried to serve his country to the best of his abilities. In a country that has suffered so much over the years from corrupt and self-serving politicians, there have been too few figures like him” Honorable act by Musharraf – Arab News Editorial

Approval ratings

In early 2007, Musharraf was extremely popular. According to a US survey, IRI President General Pervez Musharraf was more popular in Pakistan than opposition leaders Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif. Around 37 per cent of the respondents were of the view that Musharraf’s supported PML-Q deserved to be re-elected.

But by August 2007, after the lawyers Judicial Activism started, Musharraf became slightly unpopular in Pakistan due to persistent media efforts and anti-Musharraf talk shows. An International Republican Institute survey, taken of 3000 people, showed that 64 percent of the population did not want another term to be granted to Musharraf as the president of Pakistan.

Musharraf’s popularity grew after his resignation and several pro-Musharraf websites and groups on Facebook emerged.

In the most recent interview with Musharraf, Daphne Barak admits that she receives mails and people have started missing Musharraf: “Many emails are relatively flattering to you. I even have emails from PPP members who say that they never thought they will miss you, but they do. Especially young people!”

Post-resignation activities

After resignation, Musharraf went for an expected pilgrimage to Mecca. He may also continue his travelling on a lucrative speaking tour through Middle East, Europe and United States. Chicago-based Embark LLC is one of the international public-relations firms trying to land Musharraf as a highly paid keynote speaker. According to Embark President David B. Wheeler, the speaking fee for Musharraf would be in the $150,000-200,000 range for a day plus jet and other V.I.P. arrangements on the ground.

Musharraf disclosed that he has planned to jump back into full time politics but not until he moves into his newly constructed house in Chak Shahzad in Rawalpindi/Islamabad as he does not want to misuse the army house for political purposes.

His speech at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel[when?] marked his first U.S. appearance since he left office last year, as he embarks on a international speaking tour. The former president of Pakistan pleaded for understanding in his country’s fight against terrorism, in a region deemed central to the outcome of that battle. “Pakistan has confronted terrorism and extremism for more than two decades now,” Pervez Musharraf said in a speech to about 500 people at the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan event.

Regarding the Lahore attack on SriLankan players, Musharraf criticized the police commandos’ inability to kill any of the gunmen, saying “If this was the elite force I would expect them to have shot down those people who attacked them, the reaction, their training should be on a level that if anyone shoots toward the company they are guarding, in less than three seconds they should shoot the man down.

Sindhi Soldiers Of Pakistan Army Repel Terrorists From Afghanistan – Pak Alert Press

Posted by Uzair on August 11, 2009

The tide is turning and the morale is high.  ‘Our boys from Sukkur’ create a good feeling through military ranks today.

Soldiers from Sindh, Soldiers of Pakistan

Monday, 10 August 2009.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—Ambush attacks usually work in favor of the attackers because of the element surprise and the relative unpreparedness of the ambushed target.

According to Brig. Samson Simon Sharaf, a retired officer and an honorary Colonel of the Battalion of 1st Sindh Regiment, the young men of the regiment, which is based in Sukkur, Sindh, and consists of young Pakistani soldiers from Sindh, repelled up to 500 attackers, according some of the estimates.

Usually, ambushes in the mountainous region have been the weakest point of the Pakistani military battling terrorists in the area, mainly because of the terrorists taking advantage of the terrain and using high mountain positions to launch their attacks.

The tribal belt of north and south Waziristan has been the scene of growing terrorism between 2004 and early 2009, supported by foreign elements based in Afghanistan.

Today the young men of 1st Sindh Regiment not only pushed back the attackers but managed to inflict heavy damage on the terrorists.

At least three bodies of the attackers were brought back to the base.  Interestingly, all of them are Uzbek, and all three of them are uncircumcised, something highly unusual for those supposedly fighting a jihad and calling themselves Pakistani Taliban.

This lends credence to an established fact now that most of the ruthless terrorists operating inside Pakistan have actually been inserted from Afghanistan.  This is the work of organized military or intelligence people, especially considering the supply lines for these terrorists that come from Afghanistan and sustain the anti-Pakistan insurgency of these terrorists.

Pakistani security forces have found a large number of uncircumcised bodies among the well trained fighters of the so-called Pakistani Taliban.  Some analysts believe that military and intelligence operatives from India and Karzai’s puppet regime is training, arming and financing this anti-Pakistan terrorism.  This also raises question marks on the role of the US military and CIA since Afghanistan is an American-controlled territory.

According to one analyst, there is a high probability that these terrorists belong to the private army of Abdul Rashid Dostum, who is part of the Karzai government and a close ally of the US military and the CIA.  His fighters are mercenaries known for their ruthlessness.  The fake Taliban inside Pakistan have inflicted

The Asad Khela attack repelled today by “our boys from Sindh,” as Brig. Sharaf calls them, is also a sign of the changing tide in the area.  The Pakistani military has managed to turn the tide, militarily and diplomatically.

On the ground, almost the entire setup of these terrorists and fake Taliban has been destroyed.  Their supply lines in Afghanistan have also been identified.  The Pakistani military raised these issues with the American side.  The result was that CIA began attacking the territory of chief terrorist Baitullah Mehsud, and US officials asked India to scale down its intelligence presence in Afghanistan.

Brig. Sharaf reports that today’s action by the 1st Sindh Regiment was well received within ranks of the military.  This adds to the great work done by the other regiments of the Pakistan Army.

ALERT: A Pakistani Government Official Caught Telling Brahamdagh Bugti: ‘Declare Balochistan Independence While You Still Have A Chance’ – Pak Alert Press

ALERT: A Pakistani Government Official Caught Telling Brahamdagh Bugti: ‘Declare Balochistan Independence While You Still Have A Chance’

This hard evidence adds to the existing circumstantial evidence that some foreign governments have successfully cultivated high-level moles in Islamabad.

Wednesday, 5 August 2009.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—Pakistan’s Balochistan province is under attack.  Pakistanis should be in no doubt now and must begin to question their government.  And question it hard.

This is the latest:

A stunning telephone conversation between a Pakistani official and Indian-backed terrorists in Balochistan;

Permission for US Marines to land on Pakistan’s southwestern coastal area in a mock invasion;

And a consortium of three western companies want to circumvent Gwadar and get government’s approval for a mini-seaport instead.

Alarmingly, this follows the credible information that a group of foreign-backed terrorists who claim to represent Pakistani Baloch are planning in coordination with at least two foreign governments to declare the ‘independence’ of Pakistan’s Balochistan province three days before Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations on 14 August.  The move, if happens, won’t change anything on the ground but would a score a point for the anti-Pakistan forces gathered on Afghan soil.

Let’s get into the details of the latest alert:

1. US MARINES IN BALOCHSITAN:  According to an alert today by BRASSTACKS, an Islamabad-based security monitoring center, and I quote: “The US Marine Corps has reportedly been allowed [by the Pakistani government] to land around Makran coast in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.  The pretext is that the marines are conducting some anti-narcotics exercise in Afghanistan and the supposed landing in Pakistan’s Balochistan is part of that exercise.  The timing is not only dangerous but could pose a srious threat to Pakistani national security because the rulers in Islamabad have allowed the US Marine landing at a time when the US has stationed a large number of troops in the Afghan province of Helmand bordering the Balochistan province of Pakistan.”

2. A MOLE IN ISLAMABAD: A senior member of the elected federal government in Islamabad urged Brahamdagh Bugti in a telephone conversation recently to expedite the declaration of independence “while you have the chance.”  The said official is a senior member of the government.  If this tape were to be released publicly, the said official could face treason charges.  The irony is that the said official often makes strong statements about defending Pakistan’s national integrity and strategic interests against the anti-Pakistan forces gathered on the Afghan soil.

3. A WESTERN COMMERTIAL SEAPORT: The third interesting activity in Balochistan has to do with the three western companies.  One of them is the Tethyan Copper of Australia in collaboration with Canadian mining firm and another from Chile, (all have joint ownership of the copper-gold deposit at Reko Diq in Balochistan.  According to BRASSTACKS, the three companies want to build an exclusive small port (commercial jetty) near Gwadar port some 30 miles towards Karachi. One or more of them also have Israeli links of some sort, most probably in terms of equity, which is in itself should make this the concern of national security experts in Pakistan because of the growing Israeli covert role in the region, which is not documented by the western media but is well known to Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and other countries in the region.

The location of the resource-rich Reko Diq in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province

According to the BRASSTACKS alert, this project for “an exclusive small port-like facility indeed should be looked upon with high suspicion.  The main question here is:  Why the small port in the presence of a new modern port like Gwadar in close proximity?  Who will be using this new port facility apart from these companies?  What will be the security plan for this jetty and who will be looking after the security?  Foreigners from native countries of the three companies will freely use this new mini-seaport.”

This situation will represent a grave security breach from Pakistan’s standpoint, particularly in an area like Balochistan that already is the focus of third-country-sponsored terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.

To quote the BRASSTACKS alert:

“To understand the entire situation and the security concerns for Pakistan linked with demand of these foreign companies, the background of all these companies is a must to looked into.  Reko Diq is a small town in Chagai District, Baluchistan having the world´s largest Gold and Copper reserves.  According to reports US $ 65 Billion natural deposit have been sold for US $ 21 Billion to Tethyan Copper of Australia which has taken the contract to develop this mine while Barrick Gold Corporation of Canada (a Jewish company) and Antofagasta of Chile have a joint-ownership of the copper-gold deposit at Reko Diq.  The Reko Diq deposit is being explored by Tethyan Copper Company Pty Ltd (75%) and the (BDA) Balochistan Development Authority (25%).  Tethyan Copper Company is held jointly (50:50) by Barrick Gold Corporation and Antofagasta Minerals.  So far, three foreign companies have purchased stakes in the strategic copper and gold assets setting off a cycle of `change of foreign ownership´ of Reko Diq copper project. Pakistan has only 25 per cent stake in the Reko Diq copper project.  The rest of the 75 per cent stakes had first been transferred to BHP Billiton, the Anglo-Australian mining giant and then BHP Billiton under a `deed of waiver and consent´ transferred it to the Australian TCC and now TCC has sold its 19.95 per cent stake to Antofagasta Minerals.”

Pakistan’s strategic southwestern province of Balochistan is facing a real, focused threat.  The federal Pakistani government, controlled by individuals with strong links to Washington, are showing criminal negligence in this regard.  The government has so far failed to put Britain on the spot for providing sanctuary for terrorists committing arson and terrorism inside Balochistan and openly calling for the breakup of the Pakistani state.

To provide media cover and legitimacy to these terrorists, strong lobbies in Washington and New Delhi are trying to use the media to revive the debate on how Pakistan became independent from Britain and how Balochistan ‘acceded’ to the new nation.

We do not have much trust in the capability of the Pakistani government to rise to the occasion.  But to the national security practitioners and experts and the managers of the state foreign policy and public diplomacy, it is important that Pakistan not be drawn into this debate.

Pakistan is a reality.  We cannot and will not revisit events going back half a century or more in time just because this happens to suit the strategic interests of the United States, NATO, or India.

Islamabad needs to question why the governments of Britain, India and the United States are supporting terrorism in Pakistan through indirect support to terrorists claiming unilateral representation of a large segment of the Pakistani nation.
